Investigations: Efficiency of health systems and production economics

Collaborations: Instituto de Calidad de la Universidad Catolica

Possible Projects: Quality evaluations of clinics and health systems (Defining and measuring efficiency).

Student Prerequisites: The ideal student will have basic research experience, and an interest in economics or administration

Student Prerequisites: We are seeking senior graduate students with a passion for disaster/emergency response research and willingness to seek out and create new collaborations for this position

Investigations: Maternal and infant health, sexually transmitted infections, malaria, HIV, nutrition

Collaborations: Consulting for the Ministerio de Salud, Dept Seguridad Social

Possible Projects: Research on how the health systems in Peru work, how the ministry of health works in different regions of the country, analyzing community programs, and system/capacity planning

Time during Year: Any, except during Christmas

Minimum time in Peru: Project dependent, 1 month minimum if project is preplanned, longer if development is requirement

Lead-time planning: 2 months is the project is established, longer if development is required

Student Prerequisites: An ideal student will be Spanish speaking and interest in planning and health systems

Investigations: Telemedicine in the Amazonia, defining the state of health in Peru

Collaborations: University of Pennsylvania, UCSF, National Center for Strategic Planning, Ministry of Health Peru

Possible Projects: Preparing proposals for telemedicine interventions, collecting data for “Health of Peru” project, systematizing rollout of telemedicine in Amazonia

Investigations: Health services demand, user satisfaction, ethic, diseases (malaria, TB, HIV, dengue, cysticercosis)

Possible Projects: Epidemiology and health surveillance research on dengue, ARV treatment, malaria OR rotation at OPS as intern to learn about the organizations

Student Prerequisites: An ideal student will be interested in health management, surveillance, epidemiology, and public health

Investigations: On going projects on adolescent health, interventions to prevent drug use, teen pregnancy, HIV

Collaborations: Ministerio Salud, Mjer y Poblaciones Vulnerables, Ministerio Educacion, Debida contra drogas

Possible Projects: Help with development, data collection or analysis of ongoing studies, help with secondary analysis of completed studies

Student Prerequisites: A general interest in adolescent health, drug use prevention, and teen pregnancy

Investigations: Active in sexual and reproductive health, Chronic disease, recent gastric cancer

Collaborations: World AIDS Foundation, National Public Health Department of Mexico, Asociacion Latinoamericana de Investigadores de la Reproduccion Humana

Possible Projects: Adolescent health services and family planning, stigma/discrimination in mental health, TB, and HIV

Student Prerequisites: Students with any research experience and a basic understanding of epidemiology are desired

Investigations: Epidemiologic study of use of alcohol and drugs, coordinating mental health and substance abuse treatment

Collaborations: Institucion Nacional de Salud, Institucion Nacioinal de Salud Mental, NIH, Fogarty

Possible Projects: Orientation to context of mental health in Peru, making contact with National institutions, including students in grant submissions, creating international collaborations

Minimum time in Peru: Project dependent, 6 – 9 months

Lead-time planning: 6 months

Student Prerequisites: Student should be excited to learn about epidemiology, statistics, independence, grant/publication writing experience preferred, and can speak Spanish to be the ideal candidate

Investigations: Implementation and organization of integrated health services, disaster response, field epidemiology training program, and MPH structure

Possible Projects: Community work, home visits, studies in family, social structure, socioeconomics of community, etc
